Day 1: Journey to Murchison Falls via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Our adventure begins with an early departure from Kampala. En route, students enjoy a conservation-based stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where they'll have a guided walking experience to track rhinos and learn about Uganda’s rhino reintroduction program. After lunch in Masindi, we proceed to Murchison Falls National Park, with a scenic drive culminating in a breathtaking visit to the top of the falls. Here, the mighty Nile squeezes through a 7-meter gorge, an ideal moment for photography and reflection.
Accommodation: Red Chilli Rest Camp (Budget Dorms or Bandas)
Day 2: Game Drive and Nile Boat Safari
Students will rise early for a sunrise game drive across the northern sector of Murchison Falls. Expect sightings of giraffes, elephants, lions, oribis, hartebeests, and possibly a leopard if we’re lucky. After lunch, we embark on a relaxing boat cruise along the Nile to the base of the falls. Along the way, students will encounter hippos, crocodiles, elephants on the riverbanks, and a range of birdlife — including the African fish eagle and kingfishers. This day offers both thrill and ecological insights into riverine ecosystems.
Accommodation: Red Chilli Rest Camp
Day 3: Scenic Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, we set off for Queen Elizabeth National Park — Uganda’s most popular savannah park. The route takes us through Albertine escarpments, with a lunch stop in Fort Portal. Along the way, students enjoy scenic views of tea plantations, crater lakes, and rural Uganda. We check in to our lodge in the evening, ready for more exploration the next day.
Accommodation: Pumba Safari Cottages
Day 4: Game Viewing and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise
Today is action-packed. We start with a sunrise game drive in the Kasenyi plains, a prime spot for lion sightings and large herds of Uganda kobs. Later in the afternoon, students experience the Kazinga Channel boat cruise — a highlight of the safari — with its dense concentration of hippos, buffaloes, elephants, and water birds. A guided session explains the ecosystem significance of this natural channel linking Lakes Edward and George.
Accommodation: Pumba Safari Cottages
Day 5: Ishasha Sector and Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park
We drive south through the famous Ishasha sector, known for its tree-climbing lions. With luck, students will witness this rare behavior. After a picnic lunch, we continue toward Lake Mburo National Park. Upon arrival, enjoy sweeping savannah views and sightings of impalas, zebras, and elands from the lodge's elevated terrace.
Accommodation: Eagles Nest Camp (Tented Accommodation)
Day 6: Walking Safari and Return to Kampala
On our final day, we embark on a guided walking safari — a safe and immersive experience in Lake Mburo’s tranquil wilderness. This is an opportunity for students to observe animals like zebras and topis on foot and to learn about animal behavior, tracks, and park conservation. We stop at the Equator for the classic water experiment and photos, then return to Kampala, completing a journey of discovery, education, and excitement.

FAQs About Gorilla Trekking in Uganda
Uganda boasts over 1,070 recorded bird species, including 24 Albertine Rift endemics, making it one of the richest birding destinations in Africa. Its diverse habitats—ranging from rainforests, wetlands, savannahs to highland forests—allow birders to spot a wide variety of species in a compact geographic area.
Uganda is dotted with prime birding locations, including:
Mabamba Swamp – for the iconic Shoebill Stork
Kibale Forest – for forest specialists and the Green-breasted Pitta
Bigodi Wetland – great for wetland and forest edge species
Budongo Forest & Royal Mile – for Puvel’s Illadopsis, Nahan’s Francolin, and kingfishers
Murchison Falls NP – combines birding with wildlife viewing
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – for Albertine Rift endemics
Depending on the location, birders can expect to see:
Shoebill Stork
Great Blue Turaco
African Pygmy Goose
Green-breasted Pitta
African Fish Eagle
Black Bee-eater
Sunbirds, Hornbills, Kingfishers, and many warblers and weavers
Uganda is a year-round birding destination, but the best months are:
December to February and June to August for dry weather and good visibility
November and April for migratory birds
Forest birding is best during June to September
Our birding safaris typically include:
Professional birding guide
Private 4x4 safari vehicle
Midrange or luxury accommodation
All meals and drinking water
Park entry and activity fees
Mabamba canoe ride & Nile boat cruise
Airport transfers
Not at all! We welcome beginner to expert birders. Our guides tailor the pace and depth of the experience to your interest and experience level. Even photographers and general wildlife lovers are welcome.
Absolutely. Our itineraries often combine birdwatching, wildlife safaris, and nature photography. Uganda’s national parks are home to big game like elephants, giraffes, lions, and primates—making it easy to enjoy both birds and wildlife in one trip.
We recommend:
Binoculars (8x42 or 10x42)
A good bird field guide (we can provide)
Camera with zoom lens (300mm or more for birds)
Notebook or birding app
Lightweight, neutral-colored clothes, hat, insect repellent
Rain jacket and sturdy walking shoes
Most birding walks are moderate, though forest trails can be uneven. We adapt the pace to your comfort. Please let us know in advance about any mobility concerns.
