Day 1: Transfer from Entebbe or Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Entebbe or Kampala, heading west toward the renowned Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Along the way, you'll stop at the Equator for photos and a brief orientation, followed by lunch in Mbarara. The drive continues through rolling hills, banana plantations, and villages until you arrive in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi.
Here, you will check in at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge, a comfortable midrange lodge offering forest views and a serene environment to prepare for the trek ahead. Dinner is served at the lodge as you unwind and take in the cool mountain air.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking Experience – Rushaga Sector
After an early breakfast, you'll head to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette and safety. You’ll then set off into the forest, led by expert rangers, to track your assigned gorilla family. The trek can last between 2 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas' movements, but the reward is extraordinary—spending one full hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat.
Return to the lodge for a warm lunch and well-deserved rest. In the afternoon, you may opt for a cultural experience with the Batwa community or simply relax at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge. Dinner and overnight stay follow.
Day 3: Transfer to Buhoma Sector and Second Gorilla Trekking
This morning after breakfast, you will transfer from Rushaga to the Buhoma sector, offering a new landscape and gorilla family to track. The short drive (2–3 hours) reveals scenic views of terraced hills and thick jungle. Upon arrival at the Buhoma park gate, you’ll register and begin your second gorilla trek—another extraordinary opportunity to observe a different gorilla group. Each family has its own dynamic, behaviors, and setting, offering a richer understanding of these endangered primates.
After the trek, head to Buhoma Haven Lodge, a charming midrange lodge nestled on the edge of the forest. Enjoy dinner and a peaceful overnight stay.
Day 4: Return to Entebbe or Kampala
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Entebbe or Kampala. You’ll retrace your route through the countryside, with a stop for lunch en route and another brief pause at the Equator for souvenirs or photos. The drive takes approximately 8 to 9 hours. Optional domestic flights from Kihihi to Entebbe are available at an extra cost for those preferring a quicker return.
